Real Business Opportunity – How To Tell If It’s Real

Yes, you can find a real business opportunity online.  Yes, unfortunately, you can also get scammed.  You can’t turn your computer on without seeing an internet marketing business opportunity pop up.

The problem with the internet is that it is largely anonymous.  In the old brick-and-mortar days you could look someone in the eye before you did business with them.  That’s not the case anymore.

Unfortunately because of the anonymity of the internet there are more people out there trying to figure out how to make a quick buck… from you.  This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look for a real business opportunity, it just means you shouldn’t jump into one without taking a closer look.

I’m going to try to help by giving you some things to look at before you make a decision to join an internet marketing business opportunity.

Ways To Identify A Real Business Opportunity

Contact Information

If it is a real business opportunity, they will make it very, very easy for you to contact them.  They should have a valid address and telephone number.  If the company you are looking at makes it difficult to contact them, they are probably doing it on purpose… because they know you will want to cancel or complain.  If you find this run away… fast.

Outrageous Income Claims

Typically if it’s a real business opportunity they are not going to tell you that you’ll become a millionaire in 3 weeks, but this one can be tricky.  Good marketing practices dictate that they should show you the success that is possible.  The numbers being quoted are likely from the very first people involved in the business and/or from people who began marketing just as the internet began to take off.

Don’t let these claims completely turn you away from the opportunity, but recognize that there is no possible way that you’re going to even come close to achieving the same results.

Reputation

Check out their reputation.  If it’s a real business opportunity you shouldn’t find negative comments when you look at online forums.  You can even look up the company name in a Google search.  Keep in mind that anyone can have a lousy day and write a scathing review just because they’re crabby (because of that anonymity thing).  Be careful if you see one or two negative comments.  If you see more than that, run away… fast.

Their Website

Another item to review when looking for a real business opportunity is to look at their website.  Is it professional looking or is it covered with too many gaudy colors and things flashing?  If there is too much flashing red, purple and orange, the website was probably designed just to get your attention.

If it was a real business opportunity, shouldn’t the valuable information be the focus?

Money Back Guarantee

Does the company offer a money back guarantee?  If it’s a real business opportunity, they should stand behind their products and services.

Be careful here.  I’ve seen some companies that do offer money back guarantees but there are too many caveats.  For example, “money back guarantee if you complete each item on the business start-up checklist” is too restrictive.  It will likely be too difficult to complete their checklist and you won’t get your money back.

Time In Business

One other item that I’ve seen on a lot of lists about how to identify a real business opportunity is to see how long the company has been in business.

It is true that the longer the company has been in business is an indicator that it has the strength to withstand the competition, but don’t automatically discount newer companies just because they are new.  Frequently it’s the people who get in early on the new business ventures who really make the money.

Just make sure you put a little more research into companies that haven’t been around very long.  Find out who their leaders are and make sure they’re legitimate to help you determine if it’s a real business opportunity or not.

Summary

The internet is an exciting place to be these days.  There are hundreds of ways to make money and thousands of legitimate business opportunities.  This is the first time in history that you could start your own business without having a business degree and a lot of money.  Just make sure that you take your time and find a real business opportunity… and avoid the ones that are all hype.
